River Children’s Centre Mural

Last Spring Artspace was commissioned to create a community mosaic to decorate the newly opened River Children's Centre in Naas

Mosaic Artist Claire Robinson from Artspace worked with Families at the River Centre, Lydney, to produce a mosaic for the outside of the new building.

Images depict local scenes, and things that happen at the Centre – children playing together, cooking, and looking at books. Elements of the mosaic were taken from children’s suggestions and drawings – such as hot air balloons, a car (“my daddy drives me here, so I like the car”), a steam train and various animals.

Participants learned tile cutting and design techniques, and the finished mosaic which was installed in September on the outside of the building, has attracted positive feedback, frequently being used as a teaching resource too.
